Miss Jennifer provides a cozy American Sign Language story time to share bedtime stories and songs!
Wear jammies & bring a favorite stuffed animal!
Children all ages welcome!
(Sponsored by the Friends of the University Heights Branch Library)
Join us for a storytelling time as Miss Helene, the Youth Services Librarian, reads a selection of enjoyable books. Storytime will include some favorite children's songs and fun movement. To be followed by a creative craft project. Appropriate for children ages 5 and up but all ages are welcome! (Adult assistance with little ones recommended for craft activity.)
Join us for our wrap-up to the Summer Reading Program presentations. This hands-on demonstration introduces participants to friction, forces, and the laws of motion. After experimenting with parachutes, students design and build roller coasters to investigate the fundamental laws of physics. Ideal for school grades 2 – 5 but all ages welcome.
Looking for something for yourself or a loved one? Choose from a large selection of books in all genres as well as household items and more! Enter at the lower level of the library at Howard Ave. The Friends of the San Diego Public Library is a group of volunteers that raises funds to support our libraries and programs system-wide; holds a monthly weekend-long book sale to generate income; engages in library advocacy; recognizes volunteers from all 36 chapters at its annual meeting; and provides structure and support for the 34 affiliate chapters.
Can you believe that some of America's youth are denied the right to read? Yeah, we couldn’t either! So, guess what we are going to do about it? We believe in your right to read what you want, discover yourself and form your own opinions. Now, teens and young adults ages 12 to 26 living anywhere in the U.S. can access San Diego Public Library’s online collection of banned or restricted eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Enjoy an early afternoon story time with a seasonal theme for young children including books and music with the addition of American Sign Language signs presented by Jennifer Duncan from Signs at Play. The last 10-15 minutes of the story time will be available for Q&A so parents and caregivers can learn more about ASL and using signs at home.
Finish out the school day at the library, as Youth Services Librarian, Miss Helene, presents energizing and entertaining stories, favorite children’s songs, musical instruments, and creative arts and crafts.
Those who are age 21 and over are invited to attend the Friends of the Library’s “Get Carded” event at the Park & Rec Bar in University Heights. If you don’t have a library card yet, library personnel will be there to assist you in getting “carded”. In addition, we will be having a Library Trivia Contest. The winner of the trivia contest will get a $100 bill on the spot. So, study up for this fun event! This event is limited to persons who are over age 21 because Park & Rec is strictly a 21 and over establishment.
**All above library programs are free to the public. Starred programs are generously sponsored by the Friends of the University Heights Branch Library.
Not sure what you might need to help recover after a disaster or evacuation order? Attend this workshop to learn what documents you should have before disaster strikes. Presented by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Dept.
The Friends will have a booth at the San Diego’s Fall Festival. We will have free masks and book/library-related buttons for sale to raise money for the library.
The Fall Festival has it ALL! This annual, free event is open to the public and packed with live music, delicious food vendors, refreshing craft beer and natural wines. Select the perfect carving pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, shop the stalls of the local artisan market, or meet local growers and small businesses. With fun activities for all ages—like face painting, lawn games, and hayrides—there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

We met lots of new people, many who became members of the Friends of the UH Library.
There were also many people who got library cards for the first time or renewed their current cards. We hope you will use your library card to acess all the great resources the library provides!
Thank you to Councilmember Stephen Whitburn and State Assemblymember Chris Ward for stopping by our table and for their continued support of our library.
